RS-232 Serial Barcode Scanners connect directly to the serial port on a computer. The data collected from a serial barcode scanner can be programmed to be inputted into software data fields, even if the cursor is in a different location on the computer screen. While RS-232 serial scanners require a bit more initial setup, they are incredibly convenient. Data parsing as well as date and time stamps are other common uses.
